Event Time and Date
Persian New Year, Nowruz, is the first day of spring, which is marked as the beginning of the year in Persian calendar. Nowruz is celebrated in many nations such as Iran, Azerbaijan, Afghanistan, Georgia, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Syria, Tajikistan, Turkey, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. Nowruz is partly rooted in Zoroastrian religious tradition. It is the most important holiday in Iran, for which, the preparations usually start from the last month of winter.
For the past two years Iranian Student Association (ISA) has held a Nowruz cultural event very successfully; about 170 people attended to this event last year. Therefore, Iranian Students Association (ISA) decided to have its third cultural event, Nowruz, on March 21th, 2017. The event is planned to start at 6:00 pm on Tuesday March 21th and will end at 10:00 pm. It will be open to all UC Merced students, and staffs. Our estimated number of guests is around 170 people.
California room is already reserved for this event. Also, the funding proposal has passed ICC approval and is waiting for ASUCM president's confirmation.
